What's Included in Our Private Piano Lessons?

Our piano curriculum is tailored to your goals and timing.

No matter your goal in playing the piano, we aim to teach you the foundation of understanding and performing music. That means going beyond the notes and into theory: rhythm, time, and notes so you're able to play the songs you love and have a strong foundation for growth beyond the basics.
Whether you're interested in producing music or just playing for fun, we'll set up the curriculum to support your goals and move you quickly into learning and performing pieces (audience or none).
Of course, since we're a recording studio, you also have the added benefit of being able to record your work along the way. You can lean on the expansive Shifted gear list to support the journey.

Beginner Fundamentals

If you're new to piano or taking a long break, we'll start at the basics: posture, hand position, and reading music while exploring musical concepts that complement your genres of interest.
We'll explore the fundamentals with simple songs that you love so that you can have fun while you're learning and pick up the technique naturally over time.
Since we'll likely only meet once or twice per week, we'll also show you the best ways to practice and build skill over time on your own. This is the cornerstone of reaching the level of skill you want as a musician, and we'll show you how to get there with proven practice formats and techniques that help you build along the way.

Intermediate Piano Playing

Whether you're already intermediate or growing beyond the beginner phase, we'll walk intermediate players into advanced topics like stylistic fluency and expression. This will mean exploring between multiple genres, recognizing progressions by ear, and being able to quickly read and perform simple or mid-level pieces.
This might take the form of establishing expertise in two or three genres, for instance, developing mastery in 12-bar blues and walking bass lines while playing pop melodies by ear. Your experience will be as unique as an original work of art!
Depending on your goals, we'll introduce an array of tools and capabilities at the studio to help you on your journey, including backing tracks, introductions to arrangement, recording and more.
